Agilio, a leading UK frontline healthcare operations software provider, today announced it has acquired specialist pharmacy e-learning business Mediapharm – marking its expansion into an important new sector.
Founded in 2001 by pharmacist Fawz Farhan and Paul Lowndes, Mediapharm is a leading provider of General Pharmaceutical Council-approved e-learning for community pharmacies. Its sector-specific platform ensures pharmacists and managers can easily deliver and track progress of mandatory staff training – saving time and reducing risk.
This acquisition is Agilio’s second in 2024 as it continues its ambitious plans for sector and international growth, following investment by leading global private equity firms Five Arrows, the alternative assets arm of Rothschild & Co, and TA Associates. Agilio’s focus is to save time in healthcare by digitising critical operational functions.
Agilio CEO Neil Laycock said: “Agilio now has a UK footprint across primary care, pharmacy, dental and veterinary, and a growing presence in primary care in the Netherlands.
“The acquisition of Mediapharm is strategically very significant for us, as we’re already a major player in UK primary care with a strong customer base among GPs and Integrated Care Boards.
“As pharmacy takes on more clinical services, the links between pharmacies and GPs will grow and Agilio will be ideally positioned to support the frontline primary care team with time-saving solutions.”
Mediapharm co-founders, Fawz Farhan and Paul Lowndes, will continue to drive the business as it moves forward under Agilio.
Paul Lowndes said: “Our platform is in effect an outsourced learning and development department for pharmacies who don’t have access to a big back-office team. We not only save them time and money, but we also ensure they are fully compliant legally.
“Becoming part of Agilio will help us to scale further, as well as adding new, complementary services for our customers. We’re incredibly excited by the opportunity.”
Fawz Farhan, a pharmacist and clinical educator, added: “This is a challenging and exciting time to work in community pharmacy.
“In order to deliver the growing number of clinical services, you need the pharmacist out front with patients. Our system makes it easy to upskill the whole pharmacy team so support staff can take as much of the load as possible and deliver excellent customer service.”
David Taylor, Managing Director (Primary Care and Pharmacy) for Agilio, said: “Mediapharm is a fantastic business that will fit perfectly alongside our wider primary care offer. Fawz and Paul bring a wealth of specialist knowledge and understanding of the community pharmacy sector, which will be invaluable as we move forward.”
