Agilio Value Award Winner Interview Series

Cliff Traill Head of Product – Dental

Instinct for Action Award Winner

In light of our recent Agilio Value Awards, we sat down with the winners to chat about their awards, their roles, and what it’s like to work at Agilio. Here we speak with Cliff Traill, Head of Product – Dental and winner of the Instinct for Action Award.

Regarded for his vast knowledge, plentiful ideas, and determination to match, Cliff has a knack for making product development happen. A famously busy member of our team, he still manages to support his fellow Agilians and inject some humour into our workdays.

Could you tell us a little bit about your role, what it entails and what your favourite part of the job is.

I am the Head of Product for the Dental division. This, put simply, means that I am responsible for continuously improving our solutions and keeping us up to date with the ongoing evolution of software as a whole – ensuring that we are agile in development and we are always delivering exactly what our customers and the industry needs.

The highlight, for me, is the fact that I can be quite creative with my solutions. When I speak to customers, I explore all the different options and can be very agile when it comes to jumping on an improvement that has been identified and can action the necessary changes very quickly.

Other than winning your value award, what is your proudest achievement at Agilio?

Well, there are many slightly less interesting things that come to mind here. Launching various products, successfully managing unpredictable business circumstances due to COVID over the past few years, coming up with creative solutions to product development issues, and the list goes on.

But a standout achievement for me was when we migrated 150,000 users over to the updated version of iLearn last year. The migration meant that we could scale and change the product a lot quicker but also that we had more confidence in its robustness and reliability. The teamwork behind the scenes was really impressive to witness and something I’m proud to have been part of.

I also hear so many good stories regarding how we have helped practices to learn, change procedures, pass inspections and improve the quality of life for their team members through the tools that we provide – which is really rewarding.

Can you name a mentor or role model at Agilio who has helped you to grow and develop?

So, historically, I worked very closely with Paul Mendlesohn, the founder and former Chief Executive of CODE, before the acquisition. Paul was an amazing entrepreneur and really inspired a lot of my current work ethic today.

More recently, I’ve been working very closely with Mil Milojevic, our current Chief Product Officer. He has been integral in broadening and deepening my skillset to be as effective as possible in my current role.

What are your hopes for Agilio in the future?

I hope we manage to maintain and nurture the positive and supportive culture that we have built at Agilio; there is a great team behind it, and everything we do is geared towards how we can change, improve, and do better next time rather than pointing fingers if things don’t go to plan.

With iService only having launched at the start of this year, I am looking forward to building that up more and seeing it gain more traction.

I’d also like to develop more partnerships with practices and Dental Service Organisations (DSOs) and work more alongside them as well as for them.

And finally, I hope to win another Value Award in the future!

Thank you for your time, Cliff. Do you have anything else you would like to add?

Just that it was very humbling to win this award; based on the feedback, I can see that it comes on the back of putting in a lot of work on the migration to iLearn that we spoke about earlier, but getting that recognition from my teammates makes all the early mornings and late nights worthwhile.

We are very fortunate to be working with the current team at the management level and throughout the wider business; they’re a particularly supportive bunch, and nothing is ever too much. It’s great to have a team with that kind of optimism and work ethic.
