Shielding resumes in Tier 4

Following the government announcement on Saturday 19th December 2020 and the introduction of Tier 4 from Sunday 20th December, formal shielding advice has resumed for clinical extremely vulnerable individuals in Tier 4 in England.

This means that clinically extremely vulnerable people should not work at the practice if they live or work in a Tier 4 area. If they are unable to work from home, they will be entitled to Statutory Sick Pay for the duration that they are advised not to work. Alternatively and if eligible, practices may choose to furlough clinically extremely vulnerable people.

Members of the household who are not clinically extremely vulnerable should continue to attend work at the practice if they are unable to work from home.

No other Tiers are currently formally advised to shield, as such, clinically extremely vulnerable people who live or work in Tiers 1 to 3 can still work at the practice providing that the relevant Covid-19 protection measures are in place. Please note, individuals in Tiers 1 to 3 may receive a letter from their GP or the NHS separately advising them to shield.

Please see further guidance here.
