Following the government’s announcement yesterday the Chief Dental Office in England, Sara Hurley, has confirmed that dental services are to remain open and should continue to see patients. Dr Hurley has reiterated that remote consultation, triage and risk assessment remain key prior to patient attendance for face to face dental care. Social distancing measures remain in place.
Practices who are paying particular attention to the COVID-19 National Alert Levels in their determination of the procedures they undertake and/or appropriate PPE for clinical team members, should note that the government’s announcement yesterday follows the uplifting of the National COVID-19 Alert Level from 4 to 5. Practices should note, however, that the Faculty of General Dental Practice (FGDP) have stated that the impact on safe practice is very similar between levels 4 and 5 and therefore are unlikely to entail a significant change to current working practices.
