EORI requirements for Northern Ireland and EU trade from 1st January 2021

From 1st January 2021, organisations that move goods to or from Great Britain (GB) (England, Scotland and Wales) and Northern Ireland will need an Economic Operations Registration and Identification (EORI) number that starts with “XI”. CODE understands that this will apply to practices in Northern Ireland who for example send impressions to labs in a country in GB or practices in GB who use the services of labs in Northern Ireland.

To get an EORI number that starts with XI, you must already have an EORI number that starts with GB. Practices in GB who do business with labs in other EU countries will also need a EORI number which begins with “GB” from 1 January 2021.

Practices can apply for an EORI number that starts with GB and one that starts with XI at the same time.

Those practices who will require a EORI number can obtain one by following the steps on the dedicated webpage. Members should do this as soon as possible to avoid any delays as the end of the Brexit transition period approaches.
